Being a gay friendly city is important to me and while fitting in seems to be working just fine for me, the dating scene was a bit hazy at first. That is why I want to talk about how great gay speed dating in DC has been for me.
Not only am I in a healthy and exclusive relationship not, but I also have several friends who have found love as the result of the speed dating events in DC right now. Finding a gay dating Washington DC event was not my first goal when I moved here, but I happened to be a subscriber to the Metro DC newsletter and learned about a Professionals in the City gay speed dating event.
Speed dating has always intrigued me but I never lived anywhere that offered it. Was I ready to start looking for love again? I had just gotten out of a serious relationship. I thought I was with the love of my life. We met in college and had a whirlwind romance.
We loved all of the same things. Drama, reality TV, gourmet cuisine, Broadway. It was like we were the same person. But that can sometimes lead to disaster. I needed a serious change and on a whim one night I started applying for jobs in several different states. I figured whatever will be will be. If I received an offer I would take it. I have to admit, DC was not my first pick. I was really hoping for sunny CA or New York.
I gave my boyfriend an ultimatum. Either come with me or we should just part ways. He did not want to leave which made me sad to realize how little our relationship really did mean to him, but at least I was finding out then and not 10 years down the road. Off to DC I went! Back to the newsletter. Who will ever know. I just wanted to experience every angle of my new life. Upon arrival I received a name tag and a sheet for taking notes. Why do I need to take notes?
I later found out. When it was time for the event to start we were seated across from a man. Half of us on one side half on the other. The workers explained that we would spend a few minutes talking to each guy before we rotated to the next. We were going to meet every man there that night. After just a few minutes I was on to the next guy. Now I realized why we were suppose to take notes! I wanted to jot down a few things for the guys I wanted to keep in touch with.
They had explained that after the event we would receive a link to their dating system where we could send messages to the men we met that night. So there was no pressure to get the guys digits right then and there. You knew you could catch up afterwards. The gay dating Washington DC event seemed to fly by. I talked to about 30 guys that night and was interested in quite a few, especially Damien.
As much as I wanted to chat with him after the event, I really had to get going so I relied on that dating system to get in touch with him later. As soon as I received that dating link I followed up with him and we decided to meet for happy hour that following Friday. We ended up hanging out all night long, walking around DC, him showing me around the city and talking about anything and everything.
Thanks to gay speed dating in DC , I have really met the love of my life. And to top that off, I also made a lot of great friends at that event as well.
